Faith in Action

Opportunities to serve Christ in our community.

Reading Buddies:  Meadowbrook Elementary:  volunteer 30 minutes or more each week reading with children k-5th grades.  Statistics show that literacy is the primary factor that impacts a persons life, ability to work and avoid issues related to poverty and crime.  Come, make a difference in a child’s life and invest in their future.

Summer Feeding Program: Volunteer for one hour a week serving meals to children at Meadowbrook Elementary School.

Backpacks of Love:  Long’s UMC partners with other local churches to provide weekend food bags to children at North Canton Elementary and Canton Middle School.  We feed approx. 30 children each week with this ministry providing food and hygiene items like beef jerky, Sunny D, Mandarin Oranges, Nutter Butter cookies, Mini Muffins, and Toothbrushes.  We take turns with other churches to pack these backpacks 2-3 times each school year.

We participate in the Pisgah Athletic Boosters program by feeding the football teams each fall and offering a word of encouragement and support as they grow in their lives as young men, persons of faith and athletes.

Together with our Sister church Cruso UMC we are serving quarterly meals at Canton Community Kitchen!  Work can be so much fun!  Especially when it is with fantastic people.

Red Bird Mission Team:  Redbird Mission provides us an opportunity to step out of our comfort zones in faith to serve folks in coal country Kentucky.  We work with this mission to do home repairs, landscaping and other services for people who are unable to do or afford to pay someone else to do this work for them.  This year we helped a woman and her son make repairs to a floor that was rotten and termite damaged as well as fixed some water leaks and provided a fresh coat of paint to her kitchen and living room ceiling.
