Long’s UMC is a small, loving, and caring community that seeks to grow our faith in God and serve our world through loving acts of kindness and compassion. Our church building is is nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina in the Center Pigeon Community of Canton NC. The community affectionately calls us “Little Long’s” to differentiate us from Long’s Chapel (near Lake Junaluska). What we lack in size, we make up for in heart striving to love God and love our neighbor. We invite you to check out our services, programs, and events. Long’s is an open and welcoming community, open to ALL who seek to know Christ.
Long’s Methodist Church was founded in 1889. The land for the church was donated by Mr. Mease, a Baptist and resident of Henson Cove. The inaugural sermon we preached to a congregation of over 800 people and took place on the church grounds because not everyone would fit in the building! Missionary pastor Rev. Carroll Summerfield Long was invited to preach to this initial gathering after returning from the mission field in Japan. Just a week after preaching at what was to be called Mease Chapel, Rev. Long fell sick and died. Mr. Mease requested the church be renamed Long’s Church in honor of Reverend Long.
